Irregularities in the work of guards responsible for watching over Milorad Ulemek have already been uncovered, says daily Blic. The District Prison authorities in Belgrade are conducting an investigation using video footage to establish which of the prison guards allowed Ulemek to return to his cell after meeting with family and his lawyer, without the required search. “Ulemek guards under spotlight” They are currently examining all videos before Feb. 5, when a plastic pistol was found in his cell. The videos are from the hall which runs in front of Ulemek’s cell door, where a mandatory search is required, according to a source from the Administration for the Execution of Penitentiary Sanctions. Ulemek received seven family visits between the last search and Feb. 5, four of which were from his wife, Aleksandra Ivanovic. The visits were held without video surveillance, which the court approved. During the same period his lawyers, Slobodan and Marko Milivojevic, visited 15 times. Blic’s source said that it was not possible to ascertain whether one of his visitors had brought the pistol into the prison, as the metal detector could not register a plastic pistol. According to the source, the possibility has not been ruled out that Ulemek had been given the plastic pistol directly in his cell by a guard, as the cell is not under video surveillance.
