The Hague prosecution today asked the court to reject Radovan Karadzic's request concerning an alleged arrangement he struck with a U.S. envoy. Karadzic claims that former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke promised him effective immunity from war crimes charges in return for his disappearance from Bosnia's public life. "If real, Hoolbrooke deal irrelevant" He has asked the court to make this arrangement public. "The alleged agreement, if it were to be proven, would have no legal effect before this tribunal. For this reason, the information that relates to the alleged immunity agreement is not the material for the preparation of Karadzic's defense, and cannot point to his innocence or alleviate his guilt," Radio Free Europe on Wednesday quoted a prosecution document sent to the Hague trial chamber. The former political leader of the Bosnian Serbs, accused of war crimes and genocide, was arrested last summer in Belgrade, after more than a decade he had spent in hiding.
