Esmark "potential partner" for steel plant

Vučić on Monday met with James Bouchard, chairman of the board of directors of the U.S. company.

He "stressed the importance of preserving as many jobs as possible and of enhancing and providing additional impetus to strengthening the Serbian economy," Tanjug reported.

The Serbian government once took ownership of the Smederevo-based factory in early 2012, when U.S. Steel sold it back for one dollar.

Two tenders for the sale of the company produced no offers, and a new one is set to be called once meetings have been held with potential buyers, said authorities.

Beside Esmark, Mittal and Krasny Oktyabr have been mentioned in this context.
