"Despite flood damage, reforms must continue"

The reforms will be continued by adopting a set of reform laws by the end of July, Ljajić said.

At the SAM meeting, dedicated to the recent floods in the country, Ljajić thanked the association's members for collecting around EUR 4.5 million worth of aid in material and funds, adding that 40 municipalities were hit by the floods.

Although the natural disaster has disrupted the Serbian government's plans for economic recovery, the economic reforms must continue, Ljajić said, adding that, in addition to improving the business environment, Serbia must also boost legal security for business and competitiveness.

Red Cross of Serbia Secretary General Vesna Milenović thanked SAM members, on behalf of aid beneficiaries and the Red Cross of Serbia itself, for the assistance provided in funds or goods and for the companies' efforts and motivation to help during the floods.

SAM President Milan Petrović said that association members alone have donated EUR 4.5 million worth of aid.

Amid a complex global economic situation, Serbia has a high public debt that is a burden to its economy, which must be transformed, Petrovic said, adding that the SAM is willing to assist the Serbian government in the implementation of the necessary reforms.
