BELGRADE Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said on Monday the Serbian government had no task more important than the country's economic recovery. No one had the right to threaten that recovery "through laziness and irresponsibility", he told the Serbian Economic Summit in Belgrade. "No task more important than economic recovery" Dacic said at a economic summit in Belgrade that the realization of all the other goals of the government, which were related to good economic relations with China, Russia, Brazil, India and the EU, depended on the economic recovery. According to Dacic, foreign and domestic investors have to have a good environment for investments, and that is why the government is willing to hear suggestions from those who should have the final say, besides the government, in an economic crisis. The production meant for export has to be prioritized, he noted, adding that agriculture was one of the biggest export opportunities, but also that unnecessary administrative obstacles that made it difficult to realize investments or foreced investors to give up needed to be removed. Dacic cited World Bank data, which puts Serbia in the 175th spot in the world when it comes to the speed of acquiring a construction permit, stating that it takes 19 procedures that require 278. According to the same data, Serbia is 104th in terms of the length of court cases, because they require 36 procedures, which take 635 days. "Many have given up on investing because of that, and that is why it is in our interest to simplify the decision making system," he stressed. Dacic called on foreign investors to invest in Serbia, to come to him if they encounter obstacles, whether administrative or corruption, and he said their suggestions would be reviewed seriously. Also on Monday in Belgrade, the Serbian prime minister Director of the World Academy of Art & Science's South East European Division Ivo Slaus conferred in Belgrade on Monday over the possibilities for cooperation on overcoming the effects of the economic crisis. They also discussed the proposition for the World Academy to set up a special expert team that would produce the plan for Serbia's exit from the crisis within six months, the Serbian government office for cooperation with the media said in a release. During the talks, the officials emphasized the importance of projects by the World Academy of Arts and Sciences for the exit from the crisis and resolving the unemployment issue as the most acute problem in the world. Dacic and Slaus discussed the cooperation with the European leadership network for multilateral nuclear disarmament and non-expansion, the release notes. (Beta) Tanjug
