BELGRADE A Finance Ministry state secretary says the talks with the IMF mission, which paid a five-day visit to Serbia, also addressed this year's budget review. "They voiced approvals and objections, it is impossible to reach a complete consensus," said Vlajko Senic, and added: Talks with IMF "also addressed budget review" "I think they are aware that we have made great progress when it comes to the centralization of public revenues, and they appreciate our effort to, in agreement with trade unions, make sure that salaries rise at some acceptable pace, as well as the reform of the tax system." “Of course, as regards some expenditures, we would prefer if we had not faced the drought, and people in Serbia lived better so that they would not need a social assistance, but some things are simply necessary,” he specified. The IMF knows how difficult the situation in Serbia is, in terms of public finances, Senic said, “During these talks, we presented to them plans for budget consolidation for the next year, and informed them that we are working on a mid-term projection of deficit reduction, and consequently the public debt cut,” the state secretary said. He voiced expectation that the talks with the IMF on a new arrangement would take place ahead of passing the 2013 budget. “Our position is clear, we expect and hope that ahead of adopting the 2013 budget, we will talk with the IMF. The agreement that refers to the previous arrangement is practically not in force any more, as all the set criteria have been broken,” Senic said. Tanjug
