Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic today called on Czech companies to invest in Serbia and take part in tenders for eight sections of Corridor 10. The tenders will be announced soon, according to the prime minister. PM calls on Czechs to invest in Serbia Opening a Czech-Serbian business forum in Prague on Tuesday, Cvetkovic said that there will be major investments in Serbia in the coming period, underscoring that the country is gradually but surely recovering. “We expect a growth of two percent this year and an economic growth of three percent next year, while it could reach between five and six percent in the coming years. Serbia is a stable market to be invested in,” said Cvetkovic. He underlined that the Serbian government is finalizing major infrastructural projects, adding that those who invest in Serbia enjoy benefits based on the free-trade agreements Serbia has with Russia, Turkey, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the CEFTA countries. A framework agreement on the reconstruction and modernization of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad section of the railway Corridor 10, worth about EUR 120mn, was signed at the Forum. Addressing businessmen at the Forum, Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas underlined that his country supports Serbia's efforts to become a member of the European Union, saying that the Czech Republic is prepared to assist with its know-how in the European integration process. He expressed his confidence that the trade volume between Serbia and the Czech Republic will increase after the economic crisis, particularly in the areas of already existing cooperation, such as mining, energy supply and public utilities. Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining Petar Skundric said at the meeting that the two countries could also cooperate in the area of technology and know-how transfer and by competing together in third markets. Cvetkovic is scheduled to meet with the leaders of both chambers of the Czech Parliament later today.
