Srbijagas Director Dusan Bajatovic has stated that the price of natural gas in Serbia should now go up 15 percent. The director of the public gas company said this should come due to the rise in the value of the U.S. dollar, noting that the Serbian government was to make a final decision. “Natural gas price should go up” Bajatovic said that there was enough gas to satisfy consumer needs in Serbia, but that the question was whether it could be paid for, since consumers currently owe Srbijagas about RSD 20bn. In an interview with B92, Bajatovic said that Srbijagas would draw the first tranche worth EUR 50mn of the total of about EUR 150mn of the loan granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to purchase gas and to maintain the current solvency of the company. Bajatovic also said that EUR 70mn of that loan is intended for the construction of a new gas storage in Banatski Itebej, the capacity of which will be one billion cubic meters. With two gas storages in Serbia and a well-organized gas market, some other companies, besides Srbijagas, might appear in the local gas market in the future, said Bajatovic.
