The Serbian government did not decide on the model of privatization of the national carrier Jat Airways on Thursday. State Secretary for Air Transport with the Infrastructure Ministry Miodrag Miljkovic confirmed this for Tanjug. "Govt. to decide on Jat Airways soon" Miljkovic said that the final proposal for the privatization model will be presented to the government soon. The prime minister's cabinet and the Ministries of Economy, Finance and Infrastructure will work together with the Privatization Agency on the harmonization of the concept for the privatization of the national carrier. He said that the government will decide to establish a new company, which will require a strategic partner to provide the necessary additional capital inflow. “The concept is based mainly on creating a new company that would practically be a national carrier, designed to attract potential investors,” he explained. Jat Airways ended 2009 with a debt of EUR 25mn, and accumulated losses from the 1990's to the amount of EUR 146mn. Miljkovic said that all debts that Jat Airways has will be covered by selling the company's assets. The company has 1,200 employees, owns 12 planes that are more than 20 years old, and uses three leased aircraft. The company owns two commercial buildings in New Belgrade, four buildings at the Belgrade airport and several in Vrsac, a considerable number of offices in Belgrade, Nis and Vrsac, commercial buildings in Amsterdam, London and Milan, as well as apartments in Athens, Skopje and Lake Ohrid in Macedonia.
