If the price of fuel derivatives continues to grow, it is possible that there would be another gas price increase next week. If the prices increase by another dinar per liter, as expected, gas would cost a record RSD 115 per liter. Another gas price increase possible Gas has already increased in price five times since the beginning of the year. Energy Minister Petar Skundric admitted that the price of gas is very high in Serbia, and said that one of the reasons behind this is the demands made by the state and the lack of competition between our refineries and others in the region. One of the options is for the gas excise tax, which is currently RSD 44.70, to be decreased by 10 percent, and have excises on liquid gas increase in order to stabilize and decrease the prices. This would decrease the price of gas by about RSD 6 per liter. While officials of the work group looking at this question have yet to make any decisions, there are other suggestions arriving to the ministry. One is to change the decree on the price of derivatives, to have prices in Serbia harmonized with prices in the Mediterranean. This is not the first time something similar to this was proposed, there were similar demands made last year. Experts believe that the government needs to react quickly because the fuel derivative market opens in less than nine months.
