"No change in monetary policy"

Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said that he will "not allow a change in monetary policy". "Regardless of who succeeds (National Bank of Serbia) Governor Radovan Jelasic, I guarantee monetary policy will stay the same. I will not allow a change," Dinkic told Vienna daily Die Presse. "No change in monetary policy" He said Jelasic resigned for personal reasons. "I know Radovan Jelasic was under a lot of pressure. Nevertheless, he managed to stay independent," he added. The National Bank of Serbia has kept inflation from going over 8.3 percent, public debt is at 32 percent of the GDP, and, according to Dinkic, the country's economic growth in 2010 will exceed the International Monetary Fund forecast of two percent.

He said Jelašić resigned for personal reasons.

"I know Radovan Jelašić was under a lot of pressure. Nevertheless, he managed to stay independent," he added.
