In the first ten months of 2009, Serbia recorded a trade surplus with the CEFTA countries that amounted to USD 1.17bn. CEFTA is a regional free trade agreement, while Serbia's good performance came mostly as a result of exports of agricultural products, the Statistical Office said. Trade surplus with CEFTA, deficit overall The country's export from January until October amounted to USD 2.16bn, while import was worth USD 989.1mn. Last year, Serbia's trade surplus with this market was USD 1.8bn. The CEFTA region is one of the rare markets in which Serbia has a continuous trade surplus, and according to the total export data, this market comes second only to the EU. However, overall, Serbia's trade deficit in the first ten months of 2009 was USD 5.8bn. This figure represents a decrease of 43.8 percent compared to the same period in 2008, the Statistical Office stated. Serbia also exported less – 28.9 percent down year-on-year, with goods and services sold aboard worth USD 6.8bn. Imports, which amounted to USD 12.6bn, were down 36.6 percent. The country's major trade partners when it comes to exports remain Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, and Montenegro. Serbia at the same time spent the most buying from Germany, Russia, and Italy.
