As it met on Thursday, the government did not consider the strategy for talks with the International Monetary Fund. But, it does not intend to propose a tax increase, stated Minister of the Environment Oliver Dulic. Minister: Tax increase won't be proposed "The government does not plan to propose increasing taxes or other charges paid by citizens in order to increase budget revenues," Dulic told journalists after the government session. He said that, at the talks with the International Monetary Fund, which are to begin in Belgrade on Aug. 24, they will propose cutting public expenditures by reducing public administration costs. Dulic explained that it is the government's intention that, through the rationalization of the number of employees and the more efficient work of civil servants, budget expenditures will be reduced. "For the time being, we cannot specify how many civil servants will be proclaimed redundant, or how much money that will save, but it is certain that dismissals will not be linear, but according to the needs of state services," he said. He added that he hopes that in the talks with the IMF an agreement will be achieved, and that there will be no need for more radical measures in order for the government to balance the budget. The International Monetary Fund will meet with the representatives of the Serbian government and the National Bank of Serbia, to discuss the fulfilling of conditions of the credit arrangement, in which Serbia was granted around EUR 3bn.
