Serbian industry is losing EUR 5mn a day because of the gas crisis, according to the employers’ union. The Energy Ministry does not have any figures yet as to the exact scale of the damage. “Gas crisis costing Serbia EUR 5mn per day” The union stated that the gas crisis had cost Serbian industry about EUR 42mn. However, the union stated that this was not the final figure and that, according to their estimates, the daily losses were over EUR 5mn. While the employers’ union is calling for someone to reimburse their losses, the Energy Ministry says that it has no official figures on the damage. The union stated that, in eight working days, Serbian industry had lost about EUR 42mn due to the gas crisis and that 59 companies had reported having to cut down or completely suspend production. The union stated that the daily losses per company were an average of EUR 50,000. They stated that many companies did not have any figures yet regarding losses, and called on them to conduct estimates and inform them in order to organize a meeting with Srbijagas and Energy Ministry officials to discuss compensation. Nor could Energy Minster Peter Skundric shed any more light on the matter. The union stated that the losses were almost double what it would take to get the Banatski Dvor storage facility working, and that the government would only feel the full impact of the overall losses for industry in the coming months with the resulting fall in VAT receipts.
