The value of the Serbian dinar, RSD, went down 11.81 percent against the euro, EUR, in the year that just ended. The official middle exchange rate of euro on Wednesday, Dec. 31 was RSD 88.601. Dinar drops close to 12% of value in 2008 On December 31, 2007, the exchange rate was RSD 79.2362, which means that the domestic currency's value has dropped by RSD 9.36 in 2008. The middle exchange rate last year ranged from RSD 75.75 to 91.63 for one euro. This was mostly influenced by the global economic crisis, political turbulences in Serbia and by the measures introduced by the National Bank of Serbia, which sought to stabilize and strengthened the domestic currency. It is estimated that the weakening of the dinar over the past months came mainly due to a considerable reduction of loans taken abroad by companies, a drop in foreign direct investments and a decrease in foreign loan influx – another consequence of the world financial crisis.
