An official recommendation has been made to terminate the contract with Austrian consortium A-TEC, signed for the sale of RTB Bor. A council set up to implement the action plan for restructuring and privatizing the eastern Serbia-based copper mining and smelting complex met today, and decided to also recommend the launching of negotiations with the tender runner-up, Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska's SMR. Contract with A-TEC to be terminated Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said that A-TEC's offer for another payment deadline extension had been rejected primarily on the insistence of RTB trade union officials, who doubted A-TEC's abilities to obtain the necessary financing. The government will take a final decision on the copper plant's future at a cabinet meeting Thursday.
