Teachers are holding pay talks with the government, as public enterprise employees protest at the free share distribution. Talks between the Teachers Union and the government are due to resume today. Teachers, public companies on strike The teachers are not backing down from their demands of a 20 percent pay increase, though they are prepared to negotiate, says union representative Miodrag Skrobonja. The union does not think an agreement will be reached and expects to have to intensify its strike. The Serbian Education Union, the Independent City Union of Teachers and the Serbian Teachers Union have been on strike for a week. Skrobonja expects the strike to affect 1300 schools today. Lessons have been completely canceled at secondary schools in Cacak, as well as at Dragisa Misovic primary school. President of the Cacak Teachers Union Radovan Kuvekalovic has announced that a meeting of union representatives has been scheduled for this afternoon. Share strike A series of strikes has also been announced by public enterprise employees over the proposed model for the free share distribution. Elektrovojvodina employees will go on strike between 12 and 1p.m. this afternoon, while the Oil Industry Union has also announced a cessation of work. Oil workers in Novi Sad and Pancevo will block deliveries of derivatives from 12 to 1 p.m., while the majority of NIS petrol stations will also suspend their activities during the same hour.
