According to The Washington Post, the primary goal of the U.S.-Israeli operations is to seize control of the Strait of Hormuz and key Iranian energy facilities.
Opening the strait, critical for global energy supply, has become the central objective of the war. U.S. and Israeli officials believe that breaking Iran’s control would allow Donald Trump to end the conflict with a declaration of victory and halt the growing global energy crisis.
Arrival of U.S. Forces
According to Washington Post sources, a contingent of 4,500 U.S. sailors and Marines is heading to the Middle East. These are well-equipped units including:
-
An infantry assault battalion
-
Combat helicopter support
-
An F-35 fighter squadron
-
Armored amphibious assault vehicles
Additionally, the Pentagon has accelerated the deployment of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from San Diego. A senior Israeli official anonymously confirmed to the Washington Post: “These Marines certainly didn’t come for decoration.”
The U.S. forces’ plan reportedly includes capturing Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub.
Ultimatum and Escalation
Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran on Truth Social:
"If Iran does not fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, the United States will strike and wipe out their power plants, starting with the largest."
The U.S. is seeking an additional $200 billion from Congress to fund the war, while allies like Lindsey Graham encourage Trump: “Seize Kharg Island, control it, and let this regime wither.”
Iran’s Response
The Iranian military has warned it will retaliate against U.S.-linked energy targets and regional desalination plants. The IRGC stated that it “eagerly awaits” the arrival of U.S. Marines and is prepared to deliver “maritime surprises.”
