Ratko Mladić's body arrives at Military Medical Academy; Autopsy to follow PHOTO/VIDEO
The body of General Ratko Mladić has been taken to the Military Medical Academy (VMA), where an autopsy will be performed, VMA Deputy Director Ivan Leković confirmed.
“At the request of the family of General Ratko Mladić and based on a letter from the Minister of Justice, the Military Medical Academy will perform an autopsy of General Ratko Mladić’s remains,” Leković told Informer.
He added that the Military Medical Academy has all the necessary professional, facilities and personnel capacities to carry out the autopsy, examinations and analyses.
Mladić’s body was taken to the Military Medical Academy from Nikola Tesla Airport, where it had arrived on a Serbian government aircraft from The Hague.
As the convoy passed, some people also stopped along the streets to pay tribute to Mladić.
Ratko Mladić, the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, died on August 27 while in the custody of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague, where he was serving a life sentence.
Before his death, he had suffered several strokes. Mladić’s family and lawyers had repeatedly asked the Mechanism to allow him to receive medical treatment in Serbia, but those requests, as well as requests from the Republic of Serbia, were rejected.
