Europe braces for chaos; it starts today at 10 a.m. and will last until Monday; "The danger is enormous"
Storm Alice could cause severe chaos in Western Europe, with the highest level of alert issued for Spain’s Costa Blanca.
The entire region is on high alert due to heavy rainfall.
Yesterday, the Spanish meteorological agency AEMET issued a red warning for heavy rain in the tourist hub of Alicante, in the Valencia region.
That very area suffered catastrophic floods in October last year, claiming the lives of 220 people.
“Enormous danger. Floods and flash floods are possible. Follow the instructions of civil protection,” the AEMET agency announced on X.
The storm is set to begin today at 10 a.m. and will last until Monday.
Meteorologists have indicated that total rainfall could exceed 140 millimeters within a 12-hour period, especially in Valencia.
The storm is also expected to affect other Mediterranean coastal regions, including the neighboring Murcia province and the Balearic Islands.
According to warnings, heavy rain is expected to start today around 10 a.m. and continue until Monday.
“Showers may cause local flooding in flat areas, streams, and ravines, so the level of potential danger is very high,” the statement adds.
Emergency services are on standby on the island of Ibiza, where an orange alert is in effect due to rain and storms, reports the Daily Mail.
Last month, this region in Spain was again hit by heavy floods.
To recall, last year’s disaster sparked public protests, with residents accusing local authorities of failing to issue timely warnings.
During the past month, heavy rainfall once again struck this Spanish region, leading to the closure of numerous schools and universities, disruptions in rail and road transport, and local flooding.
