Djokovic has the chance to achieve a historic triple feat

In addition to attempting to win his long-awaited 25th Grand Slam title, the Serbian tennis great could break as many as three major records in New York.

Djokovic came close to securing his milestone 25th major championship this season but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final. At Wimbledon, he was stopped in the semifinals by Jannik Sinner, meaning the final Grand Slam tournament of the season will provide another opportunity for a historic achievement.

If Djokovic wins the US Open, he would become the oldest champion in the tournament's history. He would surpass the record held by William Larned, who lifted the trophy in 1911 at the age of 38 years and 11 months.

However, even without winning the title, the Serbian star can still achieve two more historic milestones.

He has currently played 110 matches at the US Open, ranking second on the all-time list behind the legendary Jimmy Connors, who has 115. This means that reaching the semifinals — or playing six matches at this year's tournament — would be enough for Djokovic to become the outright record holder for the most men's singles appearances at the US Open.

At the same time, Djokovic could become the player with the most victories in the history of the tournament. The Serbian currently has 95 wins, while Connors leads the list with 98. Reaching the round of 16 would be enough for Djokovic to set the record, as it would give him at least 99 victories in New York.

Djokovic has won the US Open four times — in 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2023 — while reaching the final on six other occasions. As a result, he has an impressive 88% win rate at the final Grand Slam of the season, with a record of 95 victories and only 15 defeats.
