America has a plan: Move them to Africa?
The United States and Israel have contacted officials of three East African countries to discuss the possibility of moving Palestinians from Gaza to their territory, the AP agency announced, citing American and Israeli sources.
According to AP, officials from Sudan, Somalia and the breakaway region of Somaliland have been contacted. However, Sudanese authorities said they rejected the proposal, while officials in Somalia and Somaliland said they were not aware of such talks.
The White House and the US State Department did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Earlier this month, Arab leaders approved Egypt's $53 billion plan to rebuild Gaza, which does not include relocating Palestinians from the enclave, at odds with US President Donald Trump's vision of a "Riviera of the Middle East".
Trump proposed that the US take over management of Gaza to rebuild the devastated territory, after earlier suggesting that Palestinians could be permanently displaced.
