Israel believes that fighting in Gaza could resume within the next two months, potentially even before the October elections, according to a report by Israeli Channel 12.

The television channel, citing Israeli officials, reported on Saturday that Israel expects the U.S.-led Peace Committee to conclude within the next two to three months that Hamas has violated the agreement by refusing to disarm.

Such a decision could pave the way for Israel to resume military operations in parts of Gaza that are currently not under its control, increasing the likelihood of renewed escalation, the report said.

Channel 12 also cited a political source saying that the committee’s director-general, Nikolaï Mladenov, had considered declaring Hamas in breach of the agreement two months ago, but the move was postponed at the request of mediators.

“If nothing changes in the next three months, Mladenov will declare that Hamas has violated the agreement,” the source said.

The Peace Committee, chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, was established in January as part of a U.S.-led initiative aimed at achieving a political settlement in Gaza.

The committee was formed following a ceasefire agreement reached in October, intended to end the two-year conflict in Gaza, during which Israel reportedly killed nearly 72,000 Palestinians, destroyed much of the territory, and triggered one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.

Despite the ceasefire, Israel has repeatedly violated the agreement, killing more than 1,000 Palestinians since it came into force, expanding a so-called buffer zone, and maintaining strict restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries.

Hamas has refused to discuss disarmament unless Israel fulfills its obligations under the first phase of the agreement.
