NEW YORK President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff has accused the U.S. of espionage in a speech to the UN General Assembly in New York. She also announced that her country will adopt legislation to protect itself. Brazilian leader says U.S. "violating international law" Rousseff characterized "spying among friendly countries" as totally unacceptable. "Interference in such a way, into the lives and affairs of other countries, is a violation of international law and runs counter to the principles which should determine the relationships among nations, especially the friendly nations," said Rousseff. The Brazilian president several days ago postponed a state visit to the United States scheduled for October, after learning that the U.S. National Security Agency had intercepted her correspondence. However, the White House said Washington remained hopeful that the visit would be realized in the foreseeable future. Rousseff has ordered a series of measures after the discovery that the NSA intercepted not only her correspondence, but also broke into the network of state-run oil company Petrobras, and spied on Brazilians who gave their personal data to the U.S. internet companies Facebook and Google.
