More tear gas in Kosovo's assembly; water thrown at PM
The first canister of tear gas was activated before the sitting began today, with Assembly President Kadri Veseli suspending the proceedings for half an hour in the wake of the incident. The rest of the tear gas was released afterwards, however, the sitting continued.
Three opposition parties opposed to the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities and a border demarcation agreement with Montenegro have been disrupting the work of the assembly in a similar fashion for more than six months.
The crisis continued despite the statements coming from the international community that "tear gas and Molotov cocktails are not a common feature in a democracy."
These parties also opposed the recent election in the assembly of Hashim Thaci as Kosovo's president, but failed to prevent it.
