Man seriously injured after grocery store altercation

An incident took place last Thursday in front of a grocery store in Belgrade's Stepa Stepanovic settlement, leaving one person seriously injured.

The daily Vecernje Novosti is reporting that the victim is 60-year-old Lj. J., who was struck by 55-year-old H.M. after an altercation.

Lj.J. fell down and broke his skull when his head hit the concrete. The doctors are now fighting to save his life.

The altercation allegedly started inside the grocery store, when H.M. headbutted Lj.J. The victim, injured at this point, stepped outside the store and continued to argue with his assailant, before he struck him again. The victim was allegedly at under the influence of alcohol.

The newspaper said it learned that H.M. - who took a child to the store with him, which was present during the entire incident - is a retired military pilot who is now in custody. He will be taken before a prosecutor on Monday.

The part of the incident that unfolded in front of the store was caught on security cameras.
