Councilor and head of local DSS branch murdered

Becic was stabbed "about 20 times" with a knife, while in front of his family home, and died shortly afterwards in the hospital, according to media reports.

His 22-year-old son is the suspected murderer.

Becic served as councilor on the Serbian Renewal Movement - DSS ticket in the Smederevska Palanka assembly.

A post on the DSS website on Wednesday read as follows:

"Today we lost Zlatan Becic, our dear professor from Smederevska Palanka. Zlatan Becic was an unusually dear man due to his cheerfulness and optimism. Patient, tolerant, well-educated, subdued in a gentlemanly way, charming, loyal! A great loss to us all. Professor, thank you for everything! Rest in peace! We will always think of you with sorrow, but gladly."
