EP: Wording of Srebrenica resolution harmonized

The Srebrenica resolution was placed on the agenda after the proposal put forward by Croatia's MEP Ivan Jakovcic for it to be passed earlier this month was first rejected, and then accepted.

The final draft, produced after harmonizing proposals coming from representatives of seven political groups (EPP, S&P, ALDE, the Greens, CFR and two minor Euroskeptic parties) on Tuesday, strongly condemns the crime in Srebrenica. Previously, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judged that the war crime in Srebrenica was an act of genocide.

This was the biggest war crime on European soil after World War II, reads the draft resolution.

The draft resolution also condemns in the strongest terms all other war crimes committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, and extends sincere condolences to the families of the victims.
