According to Albanian media, the victim, Konstantinos Katsifas, a 35-yer-old, shot from a Kalashnikov (AK-47) rifle at Albanian police officers who were removing the flag.
The incident took place in the Albanian village of Bularat, mostly inhabited by (ethnic) Greeks, who had gathered to mark the anniversary of Greece's entry into the Second World War on October 28, 1940, reports Greek daily Kathimerini.
The Albanian police say that Katsifas "fired at them" and that they had returned fire and killed him.
The Greek Foreign Ministry said it was "unacceptable that the operation led to the loss of human life."
"We await for the Albanian authorities to provide complete clarification about the conditions under which the Greek citizen lost his life, and we shall proceed with all necessary action immediately," the Greek Ministry said in a statement.
The Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it "regrets the unjustified politicization" of this case.
A statement said that the Albanian police "explained in detail" that it was "a completely isolated case" as well as "a flagrant act" of aggression against the Albanian police.
The Albanian ministry also stated that it "assures its neighbors that Albania is a safe and peaceful country for all its citizens, including the Greeks."
Due to the killing of the Greek man, members of the right-wing Golden Dawn party were protesting in front of the Albanian embassy in Athens, reports AP - a protest which shut down the street. The US agency also quoted Albanian media, who are saying that Katsifas was "a member of Golden Dawn."
Katsifas was born and raised in Bulart, a village six kilometers from the border with Greece, and has recently been living in Athens.
The Albanian police said in a press release that the victim "first fired in the air, and then at the police vehicles that were approaching him."
The press release added that Katsifas was later "hiding in a nearby mountain and continued to shoot at the police."
Albanian police say he was killed in an exchange of fire, AP reported, adding that Katsifas held dual Albanian and Greek passports.
Typical Serbian media. Find the most extreme gossip and publish it in the front page.
The man wasn't shot over a flag incident. The Greek foreign minister already denied this. She said both Albanian and Greek flags were flying and both national anthems were played at the ceremony. I guess the Serbian media knows its target audience, Serbs love lies.

Athens, twenty-five years ago, was only an Albanian village. The Albanians formed, and still form, almost the whole of the population of Attica; and within three leagues of the capital, villages are to be found where Greek is hardly understood. Athens has been rapidly peopled with men of all kinds and nations..........Albanians form about one-fourth of the population of the country; they are in majority in Attica, in Arcadia, and in Hydra..…..(Edmond About, Greece and the Greeks of the Present Day)

Most Greeks did not share Byron’s views and would not have understood his allusions. They did not think of themselves as Greeks at all – and certainly not as Hellenes…but as Christians or Orthodox. (N. Hammond, Greece – Old and New)

The proof that Greece is neither “homogeneous” nor has continuity
from the ancient past is not difficult to explain. Just take a look at Greece’s
population makeup from 1829 to 1928 and in it you will find Albanians,
Vlahs, Turks, Macedonians and Roma.
Period Activity Number of People
1829 Greece created for the first time
(mostly Arvanites) Less then 1,000,000
1830 – 1911 Epirus and Thessaly Annexed
(Vlahs and Albanians) 1,600,000
1912 – 1913 51% of ethnographic Macedonia Annexed
(Macedonians) 2,500,000
21
1920 – 1928 Importation of Christian Turks
from Asia Minor (Turks) 1,100,000
In 1928 Greece registered 6,200,000 people after which it declared
itself homogenous consisting of 100% pure Greeks with a very small
Muslim but ethnically Greek population.
In the 1920’s Greece imported 1.1 million Christian Turks from Asia
Minor, claiming that they were descendants of the “Ancient Greeks”. At
the time, not one of them spoke Greek or identified with the Greeks. How
could they have? A “Greek Nation” never existed before 1829!

According to historians, authors, statesmen, academics etc, modern Greeks spoke Albanian before the masses of population
began to learn their new language called Greek. Although, there were many
different languages at the turn of 1800-century and actually well into 1900- century. We know why the
Greek state began a major build out of state schools in the second half of 1800-century. During this period the
newly formed state realized that it had to educate and teach the large masses of how to speak Greek. This fact is also reflected by what it meant to be "Greek" at the time of independence. You would think that speaking a language called Greek would be a qualification, but this was NOT the case. Instead, all it took to be qualified as "Greek" was to
be a Christian believer. This was written in the constitution itself. The state did not consider
language as part of the identity as they knew that the big masses of people did not speak "Greek". Had the big masses of people spoken "Greek",then there would not be a massive build out of state schools to teachpeople
"Greek"

Philhellehism was a sort of social disease, caused by hallucinations and the by the illusion of finding in the present mongrel inhabitants of Morea and Attica the descendants of the ancient Hellenes. Subsequent contact of Greece with Europe has already considerably modified these ideas, as the modern Greek begins to pass for what he is: a semi-barbarian, a not yet cultivated citizen, and already a spoilt savage……Our classical recollections will have been proved a fallacy…only because they inhiabit a soil where the Parthenon was built. Albanians and Greeks are one and the same, just look at their faces and demeanor. This crazy guy was radicalized by groups that are funded by those who have always had an interest in keeping Albania and Greece divided, not just now, but in the distant past too. It's become a difficult task lately though, the two countries have started to wise up to their common past and they are negotiating accordingly. Whoever doesn't like the new Greek-Albanian bond will lose. And if you become a crazy radical like this guy, the loss will be big.

Tazos: "What was the police doing in the cemetery during a celebration day?"
Is this a serious question? The police were there to maintain order. There were celebrations of the Greek OKI Day, there were guests from Greek government, Ambassadors, officials (Albanian and Greek). I can't believe I'm answering this - as in any country in the world, naturally there would be police to maintain order when there's celebrations and crowds. It would be illogical to not be police there.
"It is not like Katsifas started running to the city shooting with the gun, police went to him for some reason "
Here's the video of Kacifa running in the village shooting with the gun, not at the air, but straight at the police car:
[link]
On October 23, Kacifas posted in facebook threats to Tsipras and Rama and that he was going to send a message in all directions on October 28th.
The thing with the flag is manufactured. There were no flags taken out, there were 100s flags in the village, they all can be seen in the news videos.

The Greek gov’t asserts no Greek flag was lowered, but later to create a false reason, Greek nationalists tried to claim so. The Greek man was shot for refusing to disarm after shooting at Albanian police. Plain and simple, something police everywhere would have done.

They weren't trying to lower flag but arrest him. Special police and negotiators tried to talk to him. He refused, and as police approached he shot at em. Police responded with deadly fire. Greek police and government have accepted this reality. The flag part is not true and the words of golden dawn to promote instability.
(Illyria, 30 October 2018 11:28)
1)Katsifas was a trained commando, if he wanted to kill Albanian policemen he would have donne it. Instead he just tried to scare them, Albanian policemen have no place lowering flags in minority villages.
2)No Albanian was shot while trying to cross borders, hence the reason many thousands came to work in Greece. Greeks are not savages, we could have sealed the borders and use lethal force, yet we didn't.
3)If Albanian state and Albanians have any issues with Greek minority and their rights of bearing the flag, they should make it clear so minority can call a refenderum and decide in what country they want to belong.

What's "fake news" about it, Albos? It happened. The ethnic Greek in Albanian-occupied Epiros was killed. Who cares if he's a nationalist? And again, the only ones calling him that are Albanians who are trying to downplay it as if being a nationalist gets you killed in Albania. Albanians in Kosovo are all nationalists, so once again according to your own logic, if he was a nationalist and extremist, so was the KLA and every Albanian that supported it and therefore they got whatever was coming to them by Milosevic, just like this guy got what he deserved by the Albanian authorities.
Again, you goobers are tripping over your own logic and now you're trying to downplay it while upvoting your posts in order to make it seem correct.

The Greek Minister of Culture, Myrsini Zorba, was in Bularat that day for the celebrations of the Greek National day, and in her post on Facebook, said that there was no flag that was taken down:
"All Greek Flags, present representatives of the Greek and Albanian Government, the Greek Embassy, deputies, mayors and the children of the school. Speeches, awards, speech by the Ambassador, national hymn of Greece and Albania, children's poems. We left at three in the afternoon without any worries. In the meantime, we were informed that a Greek expatriate had threatened to fire in the morning. No Greek flag was taken down, they were all up. After 3pm on the way back, we were informed that the Greek was encircled, the police asked him to surrender, was not surrendered and killed him."
According to the family:
"The boy did a stupid thing and such an event does not have to be politicized. We are trying to calm the waters both in Greece and in Albania. We are neighbors and things should not be misinterpreted"
So let me see if I get DingDong Hee Haw Hoxha logic here:
An ethnic Greek in Albanian-occupied Epiros gets shot by Albanian police for doing, whatever it is he's doing, and the Albanians here jerk off to "that's what he deserves", and my persona favorite "that's what happens when you shoot at law enforcement in any country".
Thank you for basically undermining every reason and rationale you have for rising up against the legitimate Serbian/Yugoslav security authorities in Kosovo.

The proof that Greece is neither “homogeneous” nor has continuity
from the ancient past is not difficult to explain. Just take a look at Greece’s
population makeup from 1829 to 1928 and in it you will find Albanians,
Vlahs, Turks, Macedonians and Roma.
Period Activity Number of People
1829 Greece created for the first time
(mostly Arvanites) Less then 1,000,000
1830 – 1911 Epirus and Thessaly Annexed
(Vlahs and Albanians) 1,600,000
1912 – 1913 51% of ethnographic Macedonia Annexed
(Macedonians) 2,500,000
21
1920 – 1928 Importation of Christian Turks
from Asia Minor (Turks) 1,100,000
In 1928 Greece registered 6,200,000 people after which it declared
itself homogenous consisting of 100% pure Greeks with a very small
Muslim but ethnically Greek population.
In the 1920’s Greece imported 1.1 million Christian Turks from Asia
Minor, claiming that they were descendants of the “Ancient Greeks”. At
the time, not one of them spoke Greek or identified with the Greeks. How
could they have? A “Greek Nation” never existed before 1829!

The Greek gov’t asserts no Greek flag was lowered, but later to create a false reason, Greek nationalists tried to claim so. The Greek man was shot for refusing to disarm after shooting at Albanian police. Plain and simple, something police everywhere would have done.

Your love for the law and demands for respect for authority turns all of your dead comrades into the terrorists who "deserved a bullet" in the head and makes your precious KLA the terrorist organization it was.
Freedom for Northern Epiros now!
Epiros is Greek!
Down with Albanian Nazi Fascism!
NATO bomb Tirana!
Epirote Greek Genocide!
Viva Rankovic!
Amazing how you poor Albanian victims sound like the "Millosheviq" Serbs you spend your life and waking consciousness trying to hate when it happens in lands you control. You guys have to be fake profiles because no one can be that predictably stupid :)

Unfortunately, if someone shoots at the police in any country, especially with an automatic rifle, this is what will happen. Sorry for that.
(Staff, 29 October 2018 10:34)
Albanians showed a lack of respect by lowering Greek flag on the cemmetery and excecuting point blank the guy when his was without ammo. Albanian special forces and police have no place on Greek villages harassing villagers on day of national celebration.

(Tazos, 30 October 2018 10:48)
Hilarious savages! :)
(LOL, 30 October 2018 02:41)
A sportsman does a simple gesture of the eagle with 2 crossed hands representing just a sign of his national flag and boom his neighbours cry and call him terrorist. A real terrorist shots the police more then 3 times, asked to get surrender as by the international laws and hits the police back again. Well he got killed as all the police in the world would do. Somewhere else you get killed for just showing a chocolate gun toward the police. I'm surprised our neighbours call him just a man and not a terrorist. This are just the facts I'm not even going to say he was part of the Golden Dawn movement and a lot nationalistic posts in his social media against Albania. Well one terroris less in the world. Also a lesson to those who brainwashed him and told him go in there provoke em drink some beers and dont bother no one will touch you. Well they were wrong. Thousands of innocents albanians have tried to ilegaly pass the border toward Greece last decades emigrating for a better life and so many have been shot dead my greece police just taking aim for fun and laughing. Karma is a bitch, times change!

Chill out man, it is not like Albanians are significant fighters or they have any decent fighting history. Greeks entered their lands, populated by Greeks and Big Powers-Italy stole these lands from us. Entering again Northen Epirus will be like a walk in the park, 1-2 Greek brigades with older Leopard 1 tanks are enought. Albanian katsapliades with Ak-47 are not a match to Greek army.
