WHO: Over 1,000 people have died
More than 1,000 patients have died in Gaza from July 2024 until the end of November this year while waiting for medical evacuation, the World Health Organization announced today.
“From July 2024 to November 28, 2025, 1,092 patients died while waiting for medical evacuation,” stated WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the social media platform X.
He added that this figure reported by Gaza’s Ministry of Health is most likely lower than the actual number of deceased patients, reported Le Figaro.
The WHO Director also stated that since October 2023, the organization and its partners have evacuated more than 10,600 patients with critical health conditions from Gaza.
According to him, this includes over 5,600 children in need of intensive care.
WHO data show that medical evacuation is still urgently needed for more than 16,500 residents of Gaza.
Ghebreyesus also called for a greater number of countries to accept patients from Gaza and simultaneously urged the continuation of medical evacuations to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The fragile ceasefire in Gaza came into effect on October 10 with the mediation of the United States, but medical evacuations are still proceeding too slowly, the newspaper reported.
