Moscow threatens: No compromises
Russian Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated today that Russia will not make compromises regarding the deployment of NATO contingents, strike weapons, or Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Ukraine’s membership in NATO, as well as the deployment of military contingents and strike weapons on its territory, is absolutely unacceptable for us,” Grushko told Sputnik, adding that Moscow’s position is well known and has been stated multiple times before.
He emphasized that Russia is ready to establish legally binding security guarantees with NATO countries, but only on a reciprocal basis.
Grushko reminded that at the end of 2021, Moscow proposed such agreements to Washington and NATO, which were then rejected.
The deputy minister criticized NATO for, as he stated, its confrontational policy and “endless expansion” of the Alliance, noting that there are currently no signs that the bloc intends to reconsider its stance toward Russia or engage in a dialogue on regional security based on the principles of mutual security.
“If NATO is ready for such a step, they know where to find us,” Grushko added, reminding that Moscow has never refused dialogue, while communication channels with the Alliance have been frozen since 2014.
