Dubai submerged under water; Worst floods in the last 76 years PHOTO/VIDEO
Heavy rains and strong thunderstorms hit Dubai today, causing severe flooding across the city in a short period of time.
As can be seen in videos circulating on social media, streets in many areas have turned into rivers, and the water has paralyzed traffic and caused flight delays at airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Due to the unstable weather conditions, the police have urged citizens to stay in their homes at least until Friday afternoon, while the private sector has been advised to work from home.
The National Center of Meteorology of the United Arab Emirates had earlier warned of heavy rainfall across the country, with localized downpours particularly affecting areas with underdeveloped drainage systems.
According to official data, these are the most intense rains in the UAE in the past 76 years.
Videos circulating on social media show the Burj Khalifa and other tall buildings disappearing behind thick clouds, highlighting the severity of the weather conditions in Dubai.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation on the ground and are urging citizens to exercise caution until the weather conditions stabilize.
State of alert
Several Gulf countries are in a state of alert. In addition to the United Arab Emirates, weather warnings have also been issued in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Abu Dhabi Civil Defense has called on residents to remain cautious, take safety measures, and stay away from areas prone to flooding during the rains.
