The Serbian government granted consent on Friday for initiating a procedure for finding a strategic partner for Belgrade-based Galenika pharmaceutical company.

BELGRADE The Serbian government granted consent on Friday for initiating a procedure for finding a strategic partner for Belgrade-based Galenika pharmaceutical company. The procedure will be carried out by the Finance and Economy Ministry. Govt. to seek strategic partner for pharmaceutical company The government obligated the Labor, Employment and Social Policy Ministry to prepare options for a voluntary social program for surplus workers together with the Finance and Economy Ministry. Last week, after consultations of coalition partners, the government concluded that Galenika's current financial position was unsustainable. Following that, Economy and Finance Minister Mladjan Dinkic announced that an international call for offers for that company would be issued next year due to huge losses of EUR 170mn. Galenika ended 2011 with a loss of around RSD 1.432bn and reduced profit and its losses in 2011 have been further increased to EUR 26mn in 2012. Tanjug
