The Hague Tribunal’s has called on Vojislav Seselj to clarify his remarks that he has been in contact with Hague fugitives. Hague spokeswoman Nerma Jelacic said that she had been informed that he had not spoken to the fugitives himself, but that he had been in contact indirectly. Hague seeks clarification of Seselj comments She told daily Danas regarding Seselj’s claims that he had talked to Hague fugitives Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic, that Seselj’s calls could not be traced because he was in the privileged position of defending himself in a war crimes case. War Crimes Prosecution in Belgrade spokesman Bruno Vekaric told the daily that Seselj had the right to defend himself any way he saw fit, but that it was impossible to check on every statement he made to see if it was true or relevant. “Of course the Hague Tribunal checks on everything it deems as important to the arrest of the remaining fugitives and clearing up all the cases. We also check in cooperation with the Interior Ministry, but when we do so, we make the public aware of it,” Vekaric said.
