British PM Gordon Brown, who is Scottish, has reportedly been warned that the English have become resentful of the Scots. While the Scottish Parliament, controlled by the pro-independence Scottish National Party, decides on domestic affairs north of the border, Scottish members of the Westminster Parliament vote on English and Welsh affairs. Brown warns English unhappy with union Justice Secretary Jack Straw and Welsh Secretary Peter Hain have been talking to Brown about the problem, The Scotsman reports. They have also been engaged in a careful campaign of newspaper articles and television interviews. "We have been talking constantly about the need to get the message out about the strength of the Union and why the Tories' policy of English votes for English laws just won't work," a source in the cabinet told the newspaper. "It's no exaggeration to say that it threatens the stability of the United Kingdom."
