Ministry of Interior embarks on fundamental reforms

Nikolic presented the work on police reform, specifically in the context of the new draft law on police and action plan for Chapter 24 (Justice, freedom and security) in the EU accession talks, while Burkhard expressed readiness to continue the partnership and cooperation in the development of crime prevention strategies and the fight against organized crime, MUP said in a release.

The two officials underlined the importance of the recently established Serbian government's Anti-Narcotics Office which, along with police operations aimed at countering drug trafficking, will confirm and strengthen the position of Serbia and Serbian police as the regional leader in this field, the release states.

An agreement was also reached to maintain the high level of consultations and cooperation, having in mind Serbia's upcoming OSCE chairmanship, as well as priorities in the area of internal affairs.
