Serbians approve of diaspora's involvement in politics

Almost 60% of Serbians believe the diaspora should take part in the country's political life, while 23% oppose the idea, a Medium Gallup polls shows.

Almost 60% of Serbians believe the diaspora should take part in the country's political life, while 23% oppose the idea, a Medium Gallup polls shows. The poll, commissioned by the Studenica Foundation from California, U.S., included 1,005 respondents, who provided answers on their views on the involvement of the diaspora in national, economic, social and foreign policy, with a focus on their participation in political life and the upcoming election. Almost 60 percent said representatives of the diaspora should be given responsible state offices bases on ability and expertise, of which 35 percent said the offices should be assigned regardless of party association, while 24 percent said they should be given only to those not associated with any party. 26 percent were undecided on the issue, while 15 percent said the diaspora should not be given responsible offices. As far as capable people from the diaspora being involved in the new government, 45 percent said it is moderately important, 22 percent very important, and one in every five respondents was unsure.
