“Several hundred people have been questioned in connection to the attempted murder of Vreme weekly journalist Dejan Anastasijević, and police continue intensive work on the case,” Veljović told the daily.

A hand grenade exploded on the window on Anastasijević’s Belgrade apartment at 2:50 a.m. on April 14.

Veljović said some progress was made in the investigation, but added that any details leaked to the public could disrupt the process at this stage.

“I have personally put together a specialized team and they are checking all the potential suspects. The police officers need a few more days to do several things,” he was quoted.

Veljović also said that the fact some former Scorpions unit members were detained and then released in connection to the case did not mean they were no longer treated as potential suspects.

He told the newspaper the attack was “certainly not the work of amateurs”.

“As long as this attempted murder remains unsolved, the Serbian MUP will have a huge stain on it,” Veljović said.
