Talks on Croatia’s accession to the EU could be over by the end of the year, say Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn. “We’ve analyzed all the aspects of negotiations with the EU, and we remain hopeful that they could be over by the end of the year, as the European Commission foresaw in its last report,“ said Sanader after talks with Rehn. Rehn said that he was happy that “Croatia accepted his compromise solution“ to the border dispute, stating that Zagreb’s accession talks could resume by the end of the year. Sanader, Rehn hopeful of talks resumption

The prime minister said that the meeting had focused on the Slovenian blockade of Croatia’s further talks, adding that EU member-states were continuing to address this issue in such a way as not to jeopardize Croatian territory, the HINA agency reports.

Rehn said that he was happy that “Croatia accepted his compromise solution“ to the border dispute, stating that Zagreb’s accession talks could resume by the end of the year.
