Boris Tadic says Serbia "would not allow to find itself in a position to recognize Kosovo implicitly or explicitly" in the Kosovo dialogue that continued today. "We want to resolve the problems of citizens. Serbia does not want to sweep the issue of Kosovo and Metohija under the rug, but quite the opposite. We want initiatives which would help resolve the problems of Kosovo and Metohija, which affect not only the Serb population, but also the whole of the European continent," he told journalists. "No implicit or explicit recognition of Kosovo" The Serbian president also stated that the technical talks underway in Brussesl "can very much bring into question Serbia's position through the risk of an implicit recognition", and added that this was "taken into account during the negotiations". He underlined that Serbia would continue to fight "for its interests, its holy sites, property and the people in Kosovo and Metohija". This is the most important mission of the government and the president of Serbia, and we will never give up on the interests of our citizens, Tadic asserted. "In that process, we do not want to do anything that could harm the (ethnic) Albanian population, but rather want to find solutions that would bring peace and stability to the entire region. And I am confident that is possible," Tadic concluded. Speaking in Banatski Dvor, northern Serbia, where Gazprom Managing Board President Alexei Miller opened an underground gas storage facility, Tadic expressed his gratitude to Russia for the support that country gives Serbia in its efforts to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty.
