BELGRADE Pristina is not likely to give in because it has support of the U.S., Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic told daily Vecernje novosti. He added that the EU believed that Serbia would do anything to get a date for the start of the EU accession negotiations. Pristina not likely to change its stance, PM says Even though media and Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic have been saying that an agreement with Pristina is very close, the prime minister claims that the negotiations have stalled because of Pristina’s refusal to accept any Serbian proposal regarding a community of Serb municipalities. “There is no agreement and there will be no agreement until we discuss what the community will be,” Dacic told the daily, adding that Serbia wanted a compromise but that it would not accept humiliation. He denied that an agreement on normalization of relations had been reached. “I am afraid we hit the wall but it was not Serbia’s fault because it is fully committed to the continuation of the negotiations and finding a solution,” Dacic pointed out. However, Balkan Insight has reported that the Kosovo and Serbian officials have reached an agreement on executive powers that will be transferred to municipalities in northern Kosovo. Daily Blic has reported that the EU has a formula for the agreement and that both Belgrade and Pristina have accepted it. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said after a meeting with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton on Thursday that he was “optimistic” while Dacic pointed out that no deal had been reached. Faculty of Political Sciences professor Predrag Simic told B92 that the negotiations were “stuck” on the issues of police and judges. “Those are elements that make a state. Pristina does not want to lose this but if the Community of Serb Municipalities does not have it, it will be a plain NGO,” he explained. Ivica Dacic (Tanjug, file) B92 Vecernje novosti
