Policeman arrested over Valjevo hit

Serbian police (MUP) last night arrested nine persons, one of them a police officer, in connection to <a href="http://www.b92.net/eng/news/crimes-article.php?yyyy=2009&mm=04&dd=04&nav_id=58295" class="text-link" target= "_blank">Friday's murder of Željko Đedović</a>.

Serbian police (MUP) last night arrested nine persons, one of them a police officer, in connection to Friday's murder of Zeljko Djedovic. The suspects are also believed to have participated in a string of other felonies committed in the western Serbian town of Valjevo in the past months. Policeman arrested over Valjevo hit Criminal Investigations (KP) officers from Belgrade and Valjevo and Zandarmerija (Gendarmerie) policemen took part in the arrest operation. Police Directorate chief Milorad Veljovic said that the names of those arrested will not be revealed for the time being in the interest of an ongoing investigation, but that "no groups or individuals involved in crime will be above the law". Veljovic also announced there would be personnel changes in the Valjevo Police Directorate (PU), because of the latest developments and in order for the police to function better. Valjevo has been without police chief since Jan. 11, when Milenko Krstic retired. Djedovic, ambushed, shot six times and killed late on Friday in the city's center, was the third victim of apparent gangland killings in the past couple of months. Valjevo has also suffered a deteriorating security situation with a number of armed robberies committed in the same period.
