Marija Obradović (SNS) was on Thursday elected to chair the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs - the first woman to hold this office.

First woman elected to chair committee on defense

Obradović expressed her satisfaction over the appointment and noted that the committee had important tasks ahead, urging all members to be fully committed to their tasks.

The difficult times and obligations should make the work of the parliamentary body "interesting," the chairwoman remarked.

Obradović proposed Bojan Kostreš of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) as her deputy, and he was subsequently appointed to this position.

Five more women MPs have joined the committee that provides parliamentary control of the ministries of defense and interior.
