BELGRADE The gap between the authorities in Belgrade and the representatives of the Kosovo Serbs is not so deep any more, Aleksandar Vucic has said. That still does not mean that they will easily accept the implementation of the Brussels agreement, the first deputy prime minister and the leader of the ruling Serb Progressive Party (SNS), told the Belgrade-based daily Vecernje Novosti. "Gap between Belgrade, Kosovo Serbs not so deep" “I strongly believe that we will come to a joint decision in the coming days that will benefit the entire nation,” Vucic said. Vucic, who paid a visit to north Kosovo on Sunday and conferred with the councillors from all four municipalities mostly populated by Serbs, emphasized that in the future, all actions would be coordinated with the Serb people and their heads in Kosovo, adding that a next meeting with them could be organized as soon as this week. Referring to the meetings he had in the North Kosovo, Vucic said that they demonstrated that Kosovo Serbs place trust in their state. “I was aware that I would face political sniping, I came at the door of these people to tell them that Serbia is with them. I told them only the truth, however painful it may be. That honest approach clearly made an impact on their views. Most of them now understand that we cannot go into the future with differences, thus I am sure that we will make and implement all decisions together,” Vucic said. “I am particularly grateful to the peoples who asked me concrete questions, and did not - like some ones in the corners - use insults all the time, hoping to gain time to strengthen the power of their headquarters in Belgrade. Our people have neither seen joy in my eyes because of the Brussels agreement, nor I have praised it, but it is the best solution for the time being,” he siad. Vucic said that only the ones, who “patriotically” defended their own pockets and incited innocent children against him, did not want to see the real situation. “These people spread lies about the agreement for days, the ones I have dispersed in the direct talks with the people, hopefully,” Vucic emphasized. He reiterated that he was not happy with the Brussels agreement, but voiced his stance that there were no better solutions for the time being. “So, Serbia has not, and never will recognize the independence of Kosovo; and the Serbs will never be the Kosovars. It is true that battles would be fought over the documents, and we will do everything in our power Serbia’s documents and license plates to remain in force,” Vucic said. He emphasized that the children of Serbian origin would neither be thought in line with the Albanian programs, nor “Albanian army will set foot” in the North Kosovo. “In addition, by this agreement the west recognizes the community of Serb municipalities. That is why I think that this document is a chance for our people to survive and not to rush into defeats any longer,” Vucic said. (Beta, file) VIP Vecernje novosti
