Local elections "not KFOR's concern"

KFOR Commander Erhard Drews has stated that the NATO mission in Kosovo was not interested in local elections, as this is not an issue of its concern. “KFOR must guarantee freedom of movement and security to all citizens, as well as help normal functioning of all legal crossings,” Drews told Belgrade-based daily Blic. Local elections "not KFOR's concern" He underlined that the freedom of movement in northern Kosovo was improving but that KFOR could not be satisfied until full freedom of movement was secured to all people in the north. Commenting on the removal of barricades near the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings, Drews said that it was always good to remove barricades as they affected human lives. He added that there was a number of illegal crossings that KFOR knew about and therefore searched vehicles in order to prevent smuggling, while loaded trucks were redirected towards official crossings.
