However, the presidents of Slovenia and Germany said in advance they would not be able to attend the summit due to previously made arrangements, as Ukraine President Victor Yushchenko cancelled his visit to Brno late Thursday owing to heightened political tensions in his country.

“It is Serbia’s legitimate position and we expect European states to support preservation of our territorial integrity and sovereignty,” Tadić said.

Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico stressed the UN Security Council should adopt a new resolution on Kosovo as soon as possible.

“Swift adoption of the resolution is necessary to head off uncontrolled processes and one-sided moves on part of Kosovo, Serbia or the international community,” Fico said at a press conference given by European Parliament chiefs in Bratislava.

The Slovakian Prime Minister failed to reiterate his previously stated demands for making more room for fresh negotiations between Belgrade and Priština, saying that Slovakia would want to see the new Kosovo resolution pay more attention to Serbia’s interests, SITA agency reported.

“Official position of the European Union regarding Kosovo difers form that of our partners (in Serbia),” Fico warned.
