Unemployment rate in Serbia at 17.6 percent

The latest survey, which covered the third quarter, shows that the unemployment rate has dropped to below 20 percent, which was the government's goal, Martinović said.

"At this moment, the unemployment rate is 17.6 percent - the lowest in the past few years. The rate is 3.3 percent lower compared to the first quarter of this year," Martinović said, noting that the unemployment rate was at 26 percent in April 2012.

The number of unemployed people registered with the NSZ has declined over the past eight months and, compared to February this year, there are 52,000 fewer people registered as unemployed, while the total number of unemployed people in Serbia is 741,000, Martinović said.

Through its programs and active employment measures, the NSZ will reach out to around 6,000 people by the end of the year, including 2,500 people with disabilities, he said.
