Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad is in Syria for talks with the country's leader, Bashar al-Assad.

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad is in Syria for talks with the country's leader, Bashar al-Assad. The talks come two days after Assad held discussions with a U.S. envoy about the possibility of renewing peace negotiations with Israel. Ahmadinejad meets Syrian leader Ahmadinejad last visited Syria in February, shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Washington was hoping to see Syria move away from Iran. From Damascus, the Iranian leader travels to Algeria and the New York, where he is due to attend the United Nations General Assembly from September 20-22.

Ahmadinejad last visited Syria in February, shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Washington was hoping to see Syria move away from Iran.
