China has executed a Briton convicted of drug-smuggling, RFE/RL reports. The execution came after China rejected a string of appeals from the British government and his relatives who say the man was mentally unstable and unwittingly lured into the crime. China executes British national Akmal Shaikh, 53, was believed to be the first European citizen executed in China in half a century. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he was "appalled and disappointed" British appeals had been ignored.
