B92 leads campaign to repair kindergartens

On Saturday, September 6, from 10:00 until 20:00 CET, Svetogorska Street in Belgrade will become "Open Heart Street."

Director of Tourist Organization of Belgrade Miodrag Popović said that they were once again participating in the campaign - normally held on on January 1 to welcome in the new year - with great pleasure, and added:

"In my opinion, an equally important goal is to again raise awareness of this tragedy, of everything that happened, and remind all of us that empathy we show towards our fellow citizens, citizens of Serbia, is just as important for ourselves."

Life-size replicas of dinosaurs, currently displayed at Kalemegdan, will line the street during the event. The stage in front of the Dom Omladine venue will have electronic music, while the one in front of the Stari Grad municipal building will have workshops and entertainment for the youngest.

"We hope that in addition to this method of donating via text messages and purchase of bracelets, companies will also join and donate to the fund account what they can, in order to increase the volume of aid. I urge all citizens to get involved, to be present here, to show those who experienced a major disaster that this solidarity does not disappear after several weeks, but is and will continue until the restoration of their homes," Veran Matić, chairman of the Board of the B92 Fund, told the news conference.

President of the Belgrade municipality of Stari Grad Dejan Kovačević said that visitors can also donate by giving books, notebooks and school supplies to help repair libraries in kindergartens and primary schools across Serbia, and explained that this type of assistance will be collected in front of the municipal building. The event will be an opportunity to once again welcome some of the heroes who selflessly helped the flood victims, organizers announced.

"We'll gather all humane people who want to help by buying a special bracelet with the inscription #poplavaljubavi (#floodoflove). All proceeds will go to the restoration of kindergartens in four flooded towns - Svilajnac, Obrenovac, Paraćin, and Valjevo," Matić explained.

Those who visited the Dino Park exhibition on display at Kalemegdan have also donated to the cause when they purchased tickets - RSD 1.2 million was raised in this way in the first few days.

Those not able to attend in person on Saturday, can watch live coverage on B92 TV from midday until 14:00 CET. The media outlet's well-known hosts and journalists will also MC various events during the day. Citizens will able to donate by sending a text message to 3100, as well as directly to a dedicated B92 Fund account.

Organizers have invited the public to join in and show that children from flood-affected areas are not forgotten now that, as the school year starts, some of their kindergartens and schools have not yet been repaired.

So far, the B92 Fund, with the help of many good people and donors, in addition to delivering goods and food to those in need, helped the restoration of pre-schools in Svilajnac and Paraćin. But reconstruction works in these two towns are not complete, and youngest residents of Valjevo and Obrenovac also need assistance.
